South of Belfast and near to the coast of Northern Ireland is the beautiful Tollymore forest park. As well as being a wonderful summer destination for families and hikers, it also attracts Game of Thrones fans in droves. It was the film location for the haunted forest North of the wall, the Wolfswood near winterfell and the Kingsroad near Castle Black.
How to get to Tollymore Forest
Take the A24 south from Belfast to Clough Village, then join the A2 Newcastle Road. Just past Dundrum, the forest park is signposted to the right. From Newcastle, follow the signposted route from the Central Promenade towards Bryansford Village. After about two miles the forest park is signposted on the left.

Tollymore Forest Park is one of the best places to visit in Northern Ireland as the walks and hikes throughout the park are fantastic and it features regularly in Game of Thrones.
It’s the setting for The Haunted Forest where the Three Night’s Watchmen encounter a White Walker and it is also the scene of Theon Grevjoys escape attempt when he is pursued by Ramsay Snow. Another scene from Tollymore Forest Park is Ned Stark finding the dead stag.

Tollymore forest appeared in season 1 of Game of Thrones as both the Haunted forest north of the Wall and the Wolfswood outside Winterfell. This Tollymore Forest Trek is a total of a 90-minute walking through three iconic locations. You will be joining our morning (10am) Winterfell coach tour customers on their locations trek. The total walking distance is roughly 2 miles. The terrain may be uneven sometimes, with a steep descent in, and final ascent out of the forest from the car park.
Unfortunately, this tour is not recommended for anyone with limited mobility due to the nature of the terrain. You can identify the coach by the name Eamonn Rooney in huge letters on the side. The guide will give you a Stark wool cloak as a part of the tour, for no extra cost. Please feel free to ask the guide before the tour begins.
Game of Thrones Tour Dublin Winterfell Trek
This is a chance to represent House Stark and wander the grounds of Winterfell on this Game of Thrones tour – Dublin Winterfell trek. Seeing many filming locations south of Belfast, guides use video clips and VFX breakdowns to show how scenes were made. Putting on winter cloaks, carrying the Stark banner and wielding a prop sword (all provided), guests will be immersed in the scenic fantasy world of Game of Thrones.

Tollymore Forest is Ireland’s oldest pine forest.
